“The Club put my future into perspective.”

Our 2017 Youth of the Year candidates were fortunate to be mentored by an alumnus who, not too long ago, was in their shoes as a teen hoping to change his life and make a difference.

Jose Marin joined our Club later in his youth than most of our members. While most join in elementary school, Jose walked into our San Pedro Club high school center in his sophomore year. He joined our organization to take advantage of our College Bound program and has remained a supporter to this day.

As Jose says, our College Bound Coordinator Maria Flores became “his cheerleader and coach” who pushed him to reach his full potential and introduced him to new opportunities.

With support from College Bound, Jose went on to CSU Northridge where he majored in Communications Studies, with a Minor in Business, and graduated at the top of his class.

Maria still kept in touch with Jose and encouraged him to apply for an internship with Toyota Financial Services in his junior year of college. That internship led to a full time position and today Jose supports Toyota Financial Services’ strategies of giving as their Corporate Social Responsibility Administrator.

Jose gives back to the Club as a volunteer and helps us create new leaders to inspire the next generation like himself.
