Check back for news about our next ILWU/PMA Luncheon taking place in June of 2016.
Keynote speaker, State Senator Isadore Hall III, with our ILWU and PMA sponsors.
On June 5, the ILWU and the PMA celebrated ten years of supporting L.A. Harbor Youth at the 10th Annual ILWU/PMA Luncheon at our Port of L.A. Boys & Girls Club.
Our organization was originally founded as the San Pedro Boys Club in 1937 and has a long history of serving the harbor community and those involved in the Port. Many ILWU members and their families have attended the Boys & Girls Club and benefited from our after-school programs.
The event opened with our Port Club Youth of the Year Marlyn Angeles, a senior at Harbor Teacher Prep, sharing the experiences she has had being a Club member for over a decade. Marlyn grew up in the neighboring public housing community of Rancho San Pedro. The Port of L.A. Boys & Girls Club has served as a second home to her where she is involved College Bound and our Keystone student leadership group. Marlyn gives back to the Club by volunteering to teach soccer to our younger members.
State Senator Isadore Hall III expressed his gratitude to the unions and shippers. in his keynote address, for coming together once again to raise funds for the youth of our community. Improving the harbor area is something everyone involved in the Port of L.A. cares about and we are grateful to the ILWU and PMA for supporting our organization. Here’s to the next 10 years!
