BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF THE LOS ANGELES HARBOR APPOINTS PETER SETTELMAYER AS NEW CEO

SAN PEDRO, CA—The Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor is pleased to announce that Peter Settelmayer has been appointed as the organization's new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective August 1, 2024.

Settelmayer brings a wealth of experience in nonprofit management and community engagement to his new role.  He has over 15 years of experience in primary and secondary education and is passionate about transformational youth development and empowering students from diverse backgrounds. As the current CEO at Downtown College Prep in San Jose, California, he leads a team of dedicated educators and staff committed to providing high-quality, personalized, and college-preparatory education to low-income and underserved students.

Previously, Settelmayer was Executive Director of City Year San Jose. While there, he increased staff engagement by 37% and focused on belonging and DEI. He also led fundraising efforts across foundations, donors, and corporate grants. Before City Year, Settlemayer started a charter school in Atlanta, where he gained deep experience managing a school rooted in a diverse community.

Settlemayer currently serves on the Board of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley and is the Board Chair at Charter School of Morgan Hill. He holds a Master of Science in Urban Educational Leadership and a Bachelor of Science in Education, Magna Cum Laude, from Georgia State University.

Search Committee Co-Chair Melissa Alvarado expressed confidence in his ability to steer the organization forward:

"Pete Settelmayer's dedication to empowering youth and his strategic vision for community development align perfectly with our goals at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor. We are thrilled to welcome him as our new CEO and look forward to working closely with him to advance our mission."

Settelmayer expressed his enthusiasm for his new role and gratitude for the opportunity to serve:

"I am honored to join the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor as CEO. I am committed to upholding our mission of providing a safe and nurturing environment where young people can learn, grow, and thrive. Together with our dedicated staff, volunteers, and supporters, I look forward to making a lasting impact in the lives of the youth we serve."

Outgoing CEO Mike Lansing also shared his thoughts on the appointment, emphasizing continuity and leadership:

“It has been a privilege to serve this organization for 30 years.  I look forward to welcoming Pete into this community.  It’s easy to recognize his passion and commitment to our work.  We will work together to ensure a seamless transition and continued success for the organization."

Lansing will retire on December 31, 2024, and remain a consultant during the transition period.

Board Chair Sergio Carrillo agrees that Settelmayer's appointment is pivotal for the organization as it continues to expand its programs and services to meet the community's evolving needs:

“The Board of Directors is confident that under Settelmayer's leadership, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor will continue to be a beacon of hope and opportunity for young people throughout the region.”
