“For these kids it takes a lot of effort to focus in a classroom and learn the material the teachers are giving. If I was in a position of authority able to I would create training for these teachers, informing them on how to conform to the kids needs instead of the kids changing for each individual teacher.”

SanPedro_JarmiahGerges (1024x768)Jarmiah Gerges has been a member of the San Pedro Boys & Girls Club for the past four years. During his time at the Club, he’s become active in clubs and programs through his school and community which has helped him better himself and the people around him. Jarmiah has been able to overcome his academic and personal struggles and “was able to rebound and let my mistakes shape me instead of define me.”

Jarmiah is a junior at San Pedro High School. Through San Pedro High School, he is an active member of the American Red Cross and the football team. Despite his initial struggles with school, Jermiah has received the principal honor roll award and continues to have academic success in the AP and honor courses. He is also a two time recipient of the student of the month award.

In addition to his academic success, Jarmiah is incredibly active in his community. He is a member of Keystone Leadership program, College Bound and mentors elementary and middle school students through the Leadership in Training (LIT) Program. He hopes to be able to speak out about the tribulations that students with ADD and AHDH face, “For these kids it takes a lot of effort to focus in a classroom and learn the material the teachers are giving. If I was in a position of authority able to I would create training for these teachers, informing them on how to conform to the kids needs instead of the kids changing for each individual teacher.” Jarmiah hopes to be able to continue to be able to give back to his club and community through mentorship and continue to inspire the people around him.
